Self Service Business Intelligence with SQL Server 2008 R2

This session will introduce Microsoft's Self Service BI applications which ship with SQL Server 2008 R2, in 2010. We will show how to use Excel with Gemini, Excel services, Report Builder and SharePoint. With these technologies, business users can answer their own business questions and meet their own business needs. IT also benefits with many features for managing the services and technologies and involved. This session will include many demos of Excel, Sharepoint, Gemini, and Report Builder.

Data mining for DBAs

In the past data mining has been a topic for highly specialized and qualified analysts. Microsoft has done important work to make data mining technology easier and more commonly available. However, someone has to support these new data mining users, and that task is often left to the DBA. In this session we'll explain the data mining platform and the tools and techniques available to help you provide support for data miners. We'll also show you some powerful ways in which data mining can help the DBA directly - by finding patterns and relationships in server performance and management data that can assist you to make more effective operational decisions.

Financial analytics with Microsoft Business Intelligence

One of the most common applications of Business Intelligence is to handle financial analytics - from the simplest budgeting scenario to the most complex multi-currency and account analyses. In this session, we'll look in detail at common financial calculations and reports, for both national and international businesses. We will look at Analysis Services and Reporting Services, and will discuss important financial features of Sharepoint Monitoring and Analytics.
